Don Scipione is president of Acme Express Inc., a Midtown Cleveland software developer specializing in Web-enabled applications software. Acme Express Inc. has been developing software since 1980 and developing Web software since 1995. The company develops applications for staff scheduling, K-5 education and association membership management.
In his “prior life,” Scipione, who holds a Ph.D. in physics, was a researcher in the general atomic division of General Dynamics; Salk Institute for Biological Studies; Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory.
So how did he get involved with COSE? A few years ago he was active in the Cleveland World Trade Association, now the World Trade Center Cleveland (WTCC). One thing led to another and before long he was active in COSE.
Scipione is currently involved as a volunteer with the e-Strategy Steering Committee, the advisory board of the WTCC and is a founding member of Northeast Ohio Software Association (NEOSA).
Being active as a volunteer has lead to some business opportunities for Scipione and his company. Acme Express is a “general contractor” for the development of the COSE Website. “Personally, I get great satisfaction helping COSE and Growth use technology to become more efficient and more responsive to their members.”
His involvement with COSE has also led to speaking opportunities about the Internet to a wide array of audiences both locally (Cleveland World Trade Conference, Urban League, Women in International Trade) and international (Lublianna, Slovenia and Tblisi, Georgia).
