Richard Oldrieve, teacher of 16 years and curriculum director for Acme Express Inc., was featured in a recent Plain Dealer article “Software for hard numbers gets second-graders’ attention.” Richard, a doctoral student at Kent State, said his “Count Me Smart” program drills students at fast paces to prepare them for higher-level math and science classes later on. They are currently using the program at Case Elementary School in Cleveland and there are plans to test the program in the Westlake School District next year. The program was funded with a $60,000 federal grant in 1997.
